Costa Rica
From the high mountains of San Marcos de Tarrazú in Costa Rica’s San José province, this coffee is produced by Coopetarrazú, a highly organized cooperative of more than 4,650 smallholder farmers. Built to support thousands of producers across the region, the coop operates as a central hub, bringing together daily harvests and transforming them into consistently high-quality regional lots.
At 1,300–1,600 meters above sea level, farms sit in volcanic loam soil that contributes to the coffee’s clarity, brightness, and structured sweetness. The region’s cool climate and steady rainfall allow cherries to mature slowly, developing layered complexity in the cup.
Cherries are hand-picked and delivered daily to the mill, where they undergo a precise, fully washed process supported by water-efficient recycling systems. The coffee is depulped, fermented, washed, mechanically demucilaged, and carefully dried within a tightly controlled 72-hour post-harvest window before resting in silos to stabilize quality.
Beyond coffee production, Coopetarrazú strengthens its community through income diversification programs, agricultural supply services, retail stores, and access to low-interest loans and healthcare, creating long-term stability for its members.
The result is a vibrant and clean cup with bright sweetness, showcasing notes of pineapple juice, blackberry, and almond, balanced by the crisp clarity that defines high-grown Costa Rican coffee.
