Guatemala
From the remote highlands of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, this coffee is grown by approximately 400 small family producers, each cultivating around 2 acres of land in steep mountain terrain. Farms are often intercropped with corn and beans for household sustenance, reflecting a deeply traditional, subsistence-based farming system.
At 1,800–2,000 meters above sea level, some of the highest coffee-growing elevations in Central America, coffee develops slowly in cool, dry mountain air. These conditions contribute to exceptional density, clarity, and bright sweetness in the cup, supported by mineral-rich clay soils.
Because most producers lack individual milling infrastructure, cherries are delivered to a centralized wet mill operated in partnership with Unitrade Coffee, which helps streamline processing and connect farmers to international specialty markets. The coffee is fully washed and carefully dried using a combination of sun patios and mechanical dryers to ensure consistency and quality.
Beyond coffee production, Unitrade also supports the community through CoffeeCare, an initiative focused on education, nutrition, and health services for farming families and children.
The result is a clean, structured cup with medium acidity and body, featuring bright notes of lemon and lime balanced by nougat sweetness and brown sugar depth, highlighting both the high-altitude terroir and the resilience of Huehuetenango’s farming communities.
